Cathy McBride After 25 years in the cosmetic industry, it was time for a major change. I have always painted and developed a love for photography over the last nine years. It was time to combine my sales and marketing experience with my love of art. After discovering Shibori in 2003, it has become my passion. Shiboi is cloth that has been stitched, folded and wrapped in different techniques that are found in ancient cultures. Each piece created is unique. The rich colors that you achieve in the textiles, by several layers of dyes, combined with the intricate textures lend a very sensual quality to the fibers. Whether tying river rocks into the silk before dying or adding freshwater pearls or semi-precious stones upon completion, each piece has a life of its own. I feel it is important to study art forms of those who have gone before us and then make the techniques our own. We are all connected by this common thread or a kind of language. Awards:
