Cheryl's Studio - Paintings by Cheryl Schweitzer

Cheryl is a fine artist living in Jefferson City Missouri. She’s originally from Poplar Bluff, where she graduated from Three Rivers Community College, majoring in Art Education. After graduation, she married and started a family, but continued to paint and draw. Through the years of travel and moving, she’s collected an extensive library of reference material, which provides constant inspiration. She is drawn mostly to the ever changing landscape, but especially to scenes in the Midwest and Missouri. After several years living away from Missouri, she is happy to be back and has made it a goal to explore every spring, river, and state park possible. She also paints places she’s been on her travels, and enjoys the variety that offers. Gardens, flowers, older structures, and scenes from the past often find their way onto her canvas and paper. She paints mostly with acrylic on canvas in a traditional manner, much the same way she painted with oils, her first medium. Watercolors and pastels are also mediums she enjoys, depending on the subject.

Cheryl has been very active in the community, and was president of the Jefferson. City Art Club for 2 years. She is currently vice president of the art club, and organizes two large art shows a year, the Adult Art Exhibit in May, and Evening with the Arts in October. Both shows are held at the Miller Performing Arts Center, Railton Gallery. She recently organized another show “Three Perspectives, Three Artists” in September.

She’s active in the art community in Columbia Missouri, and is in the rotating Community Exhibition Program, part of the Columbia Art League. She’s been a judge for Capital Arts Jazzfest, a juried member of Best of Missouri Hands artists, and is a member of the Missouri Watercolor Society. Her art can be seen in various businesses in Columbia, Hawthorn Bank and UMB Bank in Jefferson City, and the Capital Arts Gallery, in its rotating shows and online. Cheryl maintains a studio in her home, where she holds classes and mini workshops.
