Tom Neumeyer, a professional photographer, operates his studio from a 1910 Arts and Crafts-style bungalow at 25 Tom’s current project is a photo-documentary of Cape Girardeau utilizing historic images from various sources with contemporary photographs the same site. He is author of the book “Cape Girardeau Then & Now” which was released in spring 2010 by the Regional History Center of Southeast Missouri State University. The coffee table style book has 120 pairs of archival and present day images of Cape Girardeau, along with several essays by local residents. In 2004, Neumeyer co-authored the book “Historic Cape Girardeau; An Illustrated History” with Dr. Frank Nickell and Dr. Joel Rhodes. Several years ago, he produced his first photo-documentary, a study of the rural elderly, in cooperation with the Missouri Humanities Council. He also produced an exhibit of historic photographs of Cape Girardeau. Neumeyer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and has done post-graduate work at Southeast Missouri State University. He teaches photography in the University’s Continuing Education Program. Neumeyer has been active in local government, including two terms as a Cape Girardeau City Councilman. He continues to serve on the city’s Parks and Recreation Foundation and the Cape Girardeau Friends of the Library Foundation. Neumeyer’s civic affiliations have included the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Neighborhood Association, Greater Cape Girardeau Historical Association, Old Town Cape, Keep Cape Beautiful Council, KRCU Public Radio, Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts, and the Visual Arts Co-op, among others.
