From our Members: Why BOMH Matters!

January is time for membership renewals and a perfect time for new artists to consider joining BOMH. BOMH offers artists throughout the state invaluable opportunities through outreach, education, exhibition opportunities and a strong communications network. BOMH truly values the contribution artists and artisans make to the artistic culture and quality of life locally, regionally and nationally, and that drives the organization’s operations. We want all artists to be aware of the opportunities available through BOMH. The strongest advocates are our members. Here’s what they have to say!

“Becoming a juried member of BOMH is by far the best thing I have ever done for my growth as an artist/basket weaver—people I have met (many now good friends) have encouraged me to continue weaving/to enter my work in contests and to believe in myself as an artist—the March convention is a great place to meet other artists and learn about sales/presentation/ and display ideas—I am proud to be a member—“

“I’m a ceramic artist who relocated to the Saint Louis area from overseas 4 years ago. After settling into my studio, I interviewed local artist’s organizations to see what affiliations would help me with information and exposure. I’m so glad that I selected Best of Missouri Hands. They make an important impact for my work by providing consistent exhibition venues like the Best of Show in Branson and Big Red Box with the Saint Louis Artists Guild. Directly introducing artists to patrons, collectors, and other artists at these events improves outreach and community for all.

When my work was juried to participate in the Branson show, BOMH was listed as the top referrer through my own website tracking. I know it is quietly and steadily helping my art as a business. Without patrons and the opportunity to expose your new work there would be far less artwork on a professional level.

Making connections is the most important function of this non-profit. Their plethora of events and information is an essential part of our thriving Missouri artistic community. Discussions with other artists and information in the BOMH news letter are important in plugging in to the dynamic calendar of artistic opportunities. I look forward to growing as a business person at this year’s Artsmart, especially after hearing so many great things about this conference.

Martha Greer has been important resources of information for me. Being able to ask about the quality of shows and events is huge because I’m still relatively new to Missouri. Martha’s news releases and consistent media effort seems to be helpings BOMH and individual members get valuable media exposure. I hope that many are taking advantage of the perks, benefits, and information that BOMH provides. Thank you Martha, Peggy King and the entire board for all of your hard work and time. I deeply appreciate all that BOMH has done to help Dawson Morgan Ceramic Works of Art get out there in the state of Missouri.”

“Much of my experience parallels other members’ experiences with Best of Missouri Hands. Membership has brought me networking and friendship benefits I would not have otherwise had. I’ve had the opportunity to exhibit my art at Silver Dollar City and the Governor’s Mansion, and even create the awards for the Missouri Arts Council. All of which would not have happened had I not become a member of BOMH.

My story has an additional facet to it that not all BOMH members get to experience. That of being elected to the BOMH Board, and then the honor of having served two years as BOMH President. The experience was life changing for me in many ways, some just too difficult to express in words. I found a new confidence in myself and my abilities. I grew as a person and as a leader. I was able to give something of myself to an organization that has given me so much. I owe so much to this organization and the opportunities it has provided me”.
