About Our Art
Painting and crafting gourds since 1993 Melynda Lotven is an artist, wife, mother of three, founder and first president of the Show Me Gourd Society, member of the Columbia Art League and juried member of the Best of Missouri Hands. Melynda has co-written 5 gourd pattern books and has been featured in magazines, books, videos, HGTV “That’s Clever” and DIY’s “Craft Lab”. Melynda in the past has also been an annual visiting artist in Silver Dollar City during their national craft festival. In addition to creating thousands of gourds throughout the years, each finding homes in the United States and abroad, Melynda has created unique limited works of art on very large gourds as well as gourd sculptures. Melynda teaches gourd workshops in her home and on the road to eager gourd lovers.
“Living in the country in Columbia Missouri is my heaven on earth, a magical place that gourds come alive and whatever can be dreamed can be created. Where moldy gourds turn into keepsake treasures, and where the gift of a gourd is a gift of all the best things in life.” …Melynda Lotven
