The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is proud to announce that recipients of the 2015 annual Otto F. Dingeldein and Friend of the Arts Awards will be honored during a reception in January. Recipients of these prestigious awards will be announced at the Dingeldein Gala, held on Friday, January 8th, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the home of Dr. Sandra and Jerry McCearley in Jackson, Missouri. During this time, a very special announcement will also be made pertaining to the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.   The Otto F. Dingeldein Award was established in 1975 and honors living individuals whose artistic achievements have made a considerable impact on the cultural enrichment of the Cape Girardeau community. The award can be given to artists, non-artists, or to organizations.   The Friend of the Arts award was established in 2002 and is one of the highest honors the Arts Council can bestow upon an individual, or organization, within the community. Nominees are involved with the Arts Council in a capacity that helps the organization achieve its goals for programming and outreach. This assistance can be delivered either through the nominee’s service as a volunteer, or through donations of funds or goods.   Sponsors of the Dingeldein Gala scheduled in January include hosts Dr. Sandra and Jerry McCearley as well as Celebrations Restaurant and Primo Vino.   Tickets for the Gala are $25.00 per person, and can be purchased through the Arts Council prior to the event, or at the door on January 8th.   For more information about the Gala, please contact Murielle Gaither at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri at 573.334.9233.

Call to Action: Visiting Artist Program Needs Your Help From: Best of Missouri Hands

The Visiting Artist program exists to help inspire students throughout the state of Missouri. Best of Missouri Hands is looking for member artists from around the state who are willing and interested in volunteering to participate from January to May 2016. Students will get to see working artists and hear about the various disciplines that Missouri artists are using to make their way in the world!   Artists will help by visiting their local classrooms to teach and speak about the arts to the young artists and collectors of the future. Best of Missouri Hands will be able to provide a $100 stipend from a Missouri Arts Council grant. There will need to be 20 total visits, and artists will be eligible for up to three visits (dependent on number of volunteers). BOMH would especially like to reach underserved areas, where arts programs or
classroom visits are limited by lack of funding.   If this opportunity appeals you to, or if you have any contacts with teachers or schools that could benefit from this program, please contact Nancy Koehler now at nancy@mckenziesjewelry.com.
