We are filled with excitement and gratefulness at the reception for the Children’s Arts Festival during First Friday. Thank you so much to the over 1,000 individuals who came to see the show, display their artwork, and support arts education in Southeast Missouri! Hundreds of votes were tallied for the title of ‘People’s Choice Award,’ and the young artist with the most votes was Nora Craft for her drawing “Colorful Tree.” This piece was also selected to be presented to Representative Kathy Swan today during our trip to the Capitol Building in Jefferson City as part of Citizen’s Day at the Legislature! Congratulations Nora! The Children’s Arts Festival will be on display throughout the month of February. Come on by! We are open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm. |

Acting Out! is raising funds for the 2016 Season. The goal of the fundraiser is to cover the rights to perform their upcoming musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Rights for the show will cost $1500. To help secure the funds by early March, consider making a tax-deductible donation for as little as $5 during February! Live theatre is a wonderful experience, both on the stage and in the audience. By bringing professional-level theatre to Cape Girardeau, Acting Out is hoping to provide memorable, enjoyable entertainment for the whole family!

Honoring St. Vincent Seminary
Southeast Missouri State University is hosting a 10th year celebration of the opening of its River Campus, located at the historic St. Vincent Seminary during the 2016-17 academic year. More than $80 million has been spent renovating the seminary grounds including world class performance venues for theater and dance, art, music, and a regional museum. The Congregation of the Mission established one of the first institutions of higher learning west of the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1843. The seminal event honoring Vincentians will be the world premier of a commissioned piece for orchestra and chorus by Dr. Gordon (“Dick”) Goodwin, professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina. This work will be performed by the combined forces of the Southeast Missouri Symphony, University Choir and Choral Union, and will be presented by the symphony on its March 7, 2017 Symphony Series concert (“A Tribute to the River Campus”) in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend this once in a lifetime event. Symphony Series season ticket renewal sales begin April 18. New season ticket purchases begin June 4. Individual concert tickets go on sale July 11. Group rates for 10 or more are available. Order by phone at 573-651-2265 or visit RiverCampusEvents.com
