Thank you to everyone who joined us in the beautiful home of Dr. Sandra and Jerry McCearley for our Third Annual Dingeldein Gala! We loved having you there to celebrate with us as we awarded Judy Barks-Westrich with the Otto F. Dingeldein Award and Jeanie Eddleman with the Friend of the Arts Award! The Otto F. Dingeldein Award was established in 1975 to honor living individuals whose artistic achievements have made a considerable impact on the cultural enrichment of the Cape Girardeau community. Judy Barks-Westrich fulfills these criteria to a tee! Throughout her illustrious 39-year career as an art educator in the public school system in Sikeston and Cape Girardeau, Judy has received many accolades including being named as the Secondary Art Teacher of the Year for 2004 and establishing a senior art exhibit at Central High School that is ongoing to this day. She was a charter member of the Visual Arts Cooperative, the ARound Town Group (now known as First Friday with the Arts), and an Arts Council member.
If you would like to congratulate Judy, you can visit her during First Fridays at The Artist Studio – one of her greatest ventures to-date! The Artist Studio opened in March of 2005 and continues to be a place where she not only sells her own artwork, but also teaches workshops in acrylics, watercolor, papermaking, weaving and printmaking.
The Friend of the Arts award was established in 2002 and is one of the highest honors the Arts Council can bestow upon an individual, or organization, within the community. Nominees are involved with the Arts Council in a capacity that helps the organization achieve its goals for programming and outreach. This assistance can be delivered either through the nominee’s service as a volunteer, or through donations of funds or goods. Jeanie Eddleman is an accomplished graphite pencil artist, Best of Missouri Hands artist, and retired art teacher of 27 years! She is a long time resident of Marble Hill, Missouri and both the President of the Cat Ranch Art Guild and Chairman of the Board of the Tom Runnels Memorial Scholarship Fund. Two of her self-published books are in the Library of Congress: Images in Bollinger County and Shadows of Cape Girardeau County Yesteryears. In 2015, she self published her third book, Perry County – Reflections of the Past. Her work throughout Southeast Missouri more than qualifies her as the recipient of the Friend of the Arts Award. Jeanie has helped to promote First Friday with the Arts right here in Cape Girardeau through WESTRAY Studio in the Bilderbach’s Art Plaza. One of her strongest contributions to the arts community ahs been through her passionate work promoting the Cat Ranch Art Guild artists, tourism at the Cat Ranch in Marble Hill, and creating the development of a networking system between artists and art groups in the region. To congratulate Jeanie and see examples of her work, stop by WESTRAY Studio!Read more about the Dingeldein Gala event at the Southeast Missourian> See more photos of the Dingeldein Gala, taken by Fred Lynch> See a listing of past arts awards winners> |

We will be easy to find, just one block over at 16 North Spanish Street! In addition to our galleries we will be adding in new features, including workshop spaces, to help accomplish our mission of providing a forum for residents of the Southeast Missouri region to explore, experience, and share in the diversity and excitement of the arts. Along the way we will be posting pictures and sharing the process of the move with our members in a Building Blog at: capearts.org/blog.aspx.
