About Our Art
Barbara Pozek (b. 1960 Largo, Florida) is an artist that works mainly with Fiber. By replaying the work for every exhibition and pushing the evocative power of the work a little further, Pozek makes work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented.
Her works directly respond to the surrounding enviroment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would often go unnoticed in their original context. With a conceptual view, she tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way.
Her fiber works are a solitary pursuit informed by her art degree (University of West Florida, 1984) and years of working in a multitude of mediums. The use of Fiber as her primary medium adds a personal reflection of a past tradition and is important as an act of meditation.
Her works are presented with the aim to identify where memory and the environment have merged. The energy of a place and its emotional and spiritual memories are always important. Barbara Pozek currently lives and works in Kimberling City, Missouri.
