About Us

About Our Art

Metal sculptor Joey Los is a magician in her shop working with hot molten metal, electricity and fire. She is a tourist, adventurer, explorer and collector. Her approach to sculpture is bold and spontaneous. As her favorite artist Alexander Calder once said, “my work is my play.” She builds a prolific world of fanciful, nature inspired plants, creatures and creations of her own imagination, large and small. Layering pieces of steel like a quilt and using her welding equipment and plasma cutter as drawing tools. Often her work is further enlivened with protective acrylic latex paint meticulously applied in bright intense patterns. Recognizable, timeless and durable for decades to come wherever they are placed.

Joey’s work is in numerous private and public collections around the country.   She has been represented by Bluestem Gallery of Missouri Crafts in Columbia since 1998   Former co-owner  of the fabulous Kunstlerhaus Gallery  in Hermann  she is now the owner of Joey’s Birdhouse Bed and Breakfast in McKittrick, MO on the Katy Trail.   Her sculptural work large and small can be commissioned by contacting her directly or at Bluestem.  She also offers a working artists special for those who wish to spend a day with her at her welding shop and create a project of their own, or relax and use her wonderful studio as your own.

Born in 1966, Joey grew up in a suburb of St. Louis called Webster Groves where her family has been for four generations. Her parents had the courage to send her to St. Louis most prestigious public magnet school Metro High where she graduated in 1984 with the confidence to pursue an exciting life. The next 18 years were spent raising a son, working various jobs, and studying in St. Louis, in the Netherlands, in Italy, and in Columbia, MO. In 2001 she graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a magna cum laude awarded BFA in fine art.
