About Us

About Our Art

Kevin spent his growing up years in rural southern Indiana, an area not unlike southern Missouri. Those formative years in the woods and streams fostered a love for beauty and art that he has never outgrown. He worked in his father’s furniture shop, drew and painted local landscapes, built model rockets, peered for hours through a gift microscope and was generally intensely curious about absolutely everything. Not much has changed in the ensuing years. As a graphic designer and fine arts woodworker, he finds himself looking at, under, through, and around just about everything. He wants to know how it was fastened, printed, glued, illustrated, designed and produced. He loves computers, Photoshop, old hand tools, and the smell of freshly milled lumber.

He earned an undergraduate degree in art from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 1978 and took additional undergraduate graphic design work at Kent State University where he participated in the Blossom/Kent summer program that teamed aspiring young designers with nationally known guest instructors. He has worked as a graphic designer, art director, adjunct graphic design professor and macintosh pro. He works full time as owner of Kevin Williamson Design which specializes in graphic design plus sculptural wood boxes and wooden jewelry.

For 30 years he simultaneously pursued the disciplines of design, art and furniture building, but in 2006 began a serious pursuit of merging these passions into a coherent whole. Rather than seeing wood merely as a material for construction, he began to see it as colors, shapes and textures. His goal is to fuse design, craft and workmanship into each of the one-of-a-kind pieces he creates.

Kevin, and his wife Nona, live in Blue Springs, Missouri. They have 5 grown children and 3 grandchildren.
