Guest Speaker
Hannah Milks, Somatic Practitioner, founder of Clever Babes Co.
Hi! I’m Hannah (she/her). I’m a queer Somatic Practitioner and Trauma Informed Designer.
My goal is to create practical, everyday products that help people live more comfortably in their bodies. I pull inspiration from my therapy sessions, conversations with friends, and training in Somatic Experiencing®. Many of my designs are things I wish I could get on a rooftop and shout at the world. Just because I had to learn this lesson the hard (and expensive) way doesn’t mean we all do!
My hope is that the quirky and clever things I design make having conversations about mental health, self care, and body positivity easier. I believe design is a tool for advocacy. I am advocating for a world where it is safe for all people (but specifically marginalized people who identify as: disabled, queer, trans, black, brown, immigrant, indigenous, chronically ill, and etc) to be present and comfortable in their bodies.
I share about my healing, design process, queerness, and more on Instagram if you want to learn more.
From Hanna’s Website:
Somatic therapy helps artists unlock creativity and overcome blocks by connecting with their bodies to regulate the nervous system, reducing anxiety, and bypassing self-criticism. It fosters “interoceptive awareness,” enabling creators to turn internal physical sensations into authentic artistic expression, thereby overcoming burnout, perfectionism, and creative blocks.
Key benefits of somatic therapy for artists include:
- Improved Creativity and Flow: By moving from a “thinking mind” to a “feeling body,” artists can access deeper states of flow and intuition, reducing the mental noise that causes creative blocks.
- Overcoming Creative Blocks and Perfectionism: Somatic practices help manage the anxiety and fear of failure that fuel the “inner critic” and procrastination.
- Processing Emotional Material: It allows artists to access and express complex emotions or trauma that may be difficult to verbalize, using art-making to process these feelings.
- Enhanced Self-Awareness: Artists learn to notice, interpret, and channel their physical sensations and emotions, which can lead to more intentional and meaningful work.
- Burnout Prevention: Somatic tools help ground artists, reducing the stress and overwhelm associated with creative work, thereby fostering a more sustainable, enjoyable, and less exhausting creative practice.

Post Meeting Event – Bluestem Fine Crafts Open House
Many BOMH artists are represented by Bluestem Fine Crafts in Downtown Columbia. You may also know that on January 1, 2026, the gallery changed hands. It just so happens that Bluestem is hosting an Open House on April 18 from 3-6 pm. How convenient is that? BOMH is looking at arranging transportation for Annual Meeting attendees to travel to Bluestem for their open house and meet the new owners. This is an ideal opportunity not only for those who are currently represented by Bluestem, but by those who may be interested in having their art in the store in the future to introduce yourself to the new owners. Further information will be provided as developed. Watch this space.
Boone Elec Coop building is located just south of the I-70 and 763 interchange in Columbia, MO
