“Self Inflicted Studios is St. Louis’ premiere tattoo and piercing studio located in the heart of St. Louis on the corner of Washington Avenue and 14th Street. Our friendly staff is made up of real artists who are passionate about their craft. Simply put, tattooing and piercing is not just a job for us – it’s a passion – and we love what we do. We help design and draw your tattoo on the spot, so you are never limited to choosing from a pre drawn tattoo off the wall (also called “flash” art). We believe this is what sets us apart from many tattoo shops. Your ideas along with our creativity and experience come together to make sure you get a tattoo that you can be proud of. We appreciate our clients for trusting us over the years and we want the chance to earn your trust too.”

FEATURED ARTIST
Jim Gray

I have been involved in different areas of photography for many years, beginning with pinhole cameras, black and white photography and darkroom developing when I was in high school. I progressed to sophisticated high-end film cameras and now to the modern EOS digital cameras.

I have had the opportunity to travel and to live in several countries. While serving as a missionary in South Africa, I became interested in nature and wildlife photography. More recently as a missionary in Taiwan I continued my pursuit of nature and wildlife photography. While in Taiwan I had an art show at the Danshui County Library and later an art show at the Starts Studio in Taipei.

Because of my interest in nature, wildlife and other areas of photography I have become active in various areas of photographic art. I am a member of the Missouri Nature and Environmental Photographers Association in St. Louis; I am a juried member of the Greater St. Louis Art Association, and I am a member of the Art World Association of St. Louis.

My desire is to present more than just a photographic image. I want to have my photographic image give an artistic expression and feeling to the subject being presented. My hope is that my work will help you in your search for beauty and creative inspiration in this wondrous world in which we live.

NEW MEMBERS
Kathy Kammien:

Kathy joined  GSLAA in April.

She says she has been on the fringes of the art scene for many years…..enjoying other people’s art…and creating some of my own while focusing on my career and family. She has enjoyed re-inventing herself several times, first in the hospitality industry, then as an Employment Consultant (headhunter, recruiter…..), and then in the non-profit sector as Program Director at the Ethical Society of St. Louis.

Now retired from Ethical, she is happily finding her way, creating her unique “art stuff.” “It’s hard to describe what I do. It’s a combination of collage, mosaic, illustration, colorizing and fun. I design and embellish mirrors, frames, and furnishings with tile, glass, old jewelry, found items, and recycled and re-purposed objects. Each piece is made with intention and is one of a kind, often illustrating the recipient’s life journey. They are custom made and come in all sizes and styles. ”
She has several examples of mirrors and frames on her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/FabulouslyFunkybyKathyK.  The page is a work in progress but is the best way to see what she is doing. She has sold retail (but not currently), and has participated in the Fall Lindbergh High School Arts and Crafts Fair, and has had a piece in a show at the Ethical Society for member artists. Many of her art mentors have been or currently are members of Ethical Society.

She was inspired to start creating her “Meaningful Mirrors” while she  was in chemotherapy for cancer in 2010. It

was great therapy for her, and people who saw what she was doing started asking buy them. The support and       kindness given to her by family, friends, and strangers during her cancer treatment led to a business of creating     mirrors to inspire others to live life to the fullest. Meaningful Mirrors can be custom ordered in any size or color and are made with re-purposed “found” items, glass gems, mosaic tiles, rocks and other organic matter, and personal items supplied by her customers.

One of her latest ventures is Fab, Funky Fridge Frames. They are whimsical colorings on pre-fab wood frames that are then outfitted with adhesive for hanging photos and magnets for attaching to the fridge. Her granddaughter Stella (age 7) inspired the designs and creates her own masterpieces that she sells too. She calls their business “Two Art Girls”.
One of the reasons she is interested in GSLAA is to learn as much as she can about the business side of art and getting to know other artists.
WELCOME KATHY!
