BOMH Professional Development Grant 2020 Application due date: February 15

The Best of Missouri Hands offers a $500 Annual Professional Development Grant. The grant is awarded to one artist each year and is available to both General and Juried Members. The purpose of the grant is to promote continuing education by providing additional resources to advance the study of a member’s chosen artistic medium(s).

The grant will be awarded at the Annual Membership Meeting during ArtSmart 2020 in Columbia in April, 2020. That may seem far away, but if you are interested in applying for the grant, you should be thinking about it now.  This isn’t something you want to put off until the last minute. The grant application will ask you to explain in detail what the grant would pay for, how your art would be advanced through the use of the grant, what BOMH activities you have participated in, and how you plan to give back to BOMH if you are successful in your application.  So you see, you have some groundwork to do.

Is there a workshop you want to take in your medium – or a new one?  Do you want to travel abroad to learn about a technique native to that country?  Do you need to purchase a new piece of equipment that will help you advance your skills and opportunities?  How about taking classes in marketing and branding your art? Do you want to apply for an artist-in-residence program, but are coming up short paying expenses for it? There are many options open to you. What have you wanted to do with your art that has been out of your reach financially – something that will open doors for you or allow you to become more marketable?

Applications will be reviewed by the Professional Development Grant committee.  The grant funds are paid to the winner after completion of the activities for which the grant was awarded, and after the winner has reported back to the BOMH membership via an article written for the BOMH newsletter.

Any BOHM member may be the next Professional Development Grant winner.  But you won’t be unless you apply. The deadline for the 2020 award is February 15, 2020, but applications are accepted year-round, so don’t postpone applying.  Download the policy and application here  or click on the “Art Grant Available” slider image on the BOMH Home Page at www.bestofmissourihands.org .

Note:  2019 Professional Development Grant winner Tresa Killion plans to use her award money towards purchase of a portable potters wheel so she is able to teach workshops and take on an apprentice.
