The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri would like to welcome students of all ages on their adventures back to school! What sounds better than colorful new notebooks, pencils, folders and art supplies? After all, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

One discipline that sometimes gets lost in the conversation of band, art class, and creative writing is POETRY! We were pleased to find “ Adventures in Anaphora” by Rebecca Hazelton linked in a recent email newsletter from the Poetry Foundation.
In the article, Hazelton walks the reader through how using anaphora in poetry can help her students, new and advanced, develop their own poetry. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri supports arts education through various programming, including our Children’s Arts Festival, ArtReach, Poetry Out Loud, and the Summer Art Academy.
Students (of all ages) who want to continue to learn the arts outside of school have growing opportunities here in Southeast Missouri – they can learn acting and dancing from On Cue Performing Arts Studio, enroll for the Music Academy at SEMO, ask Shivelbine’s Music for instructor suggestions, or take lessons in the visual arts at various studios: Open Window, Cateye Glasses, The Artist Studio, and with Dave Carter. This is all in addition to the fantastic weekly arts resources provided by the Cape Public Library.
