Best of Missouri Hands Presents the Newest Collaborative Regional Activity

Call For Artists

Midwest artists and artisans, you are invited to submit an application for our upcoming juried exhibition entitled “With These Missouri Hands“ at the Lillian Yahn Gallery in O’Fallon, Missouri from July 7th to July 31st, 2015.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“With These Missouri Hands” was developed by The Missouri Artisans Association, d.b.a. The Best of Missouri Hands, and St. Charles County Arts Council to provide a forum to demonstrate the creativity and diversity of the artists and artisans of Missouri and the Midwest region. We encourage artists to submit works that exemplify Missouri’s traditions of handmade arts and crafts.

ELIGIBILITY

“With These Missouri Hands” is open to anyone aged 18 and older. Entries must be original and not previously exhibited at the Lillian Yahn Gallery. Maximum size 48” x 72”, including frame. Maximum weight: 75 lbs. Works must be framed and wired for installation, no sawtooth hangers are allowed. Three-dimensional pieces must fit through doorway, including frame or stand. The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented, or that varies from the submitted image. There is a 25% donation fee to the Lillian Yahn Gallery on any sales of your work during this event. Artists are welcome to handle their own transactions during the artists’ reception. Works not for sale may be designated NFS.

ENTRY FEE SUBMITTAL

• There is a $20 application fee, $10 for current Best of Missouri Hands (BOMH) members.
• There is a $30 entry fee per accepted artist (not per work) for accepted artists. This fee is waived for current members of the St. Charles County Arts Council.
• Artists will be contacted upon acceptance and entry fee will then be due one month before installation.

ENTRY SUBMITTAL:

Entries will be accepted in the form of a JPEG image on a CD, or via email.

• Artists are invited to submit up to three works in any medium.
• High resolution images are preferred
• Required: 1 image per each entry
• We suggest 300 dpi at 4” x 6”. Also include title, medium, size (indicated as height first, width second) on the attached form.
• Please label digital images as: smith01_title_medium_10x10

Artists will be notified by May 22nd as to acceptance into the show.

If an artist wishes to include an artist statement, they should be displayed in a frame and hung near their own work. Pedestals may be available upon request but participants are encouraged to make advanced arrangements.

SHIPMENT, RETURN OF WORK, AND LIABILITY

Shipping artwork to and from the exhibit is the responsibility of the artist. Works must be labeled with artist’s name, title of work, media, and price. Shipping cartons must be reusable and within shipping guidelines. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide postage and insurance to and from the exhibit and to schedule delivery and pick-up of the work. Receipt of the completed form constitutes your agreement with all conditions established in the prospectus. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide all shipping costs and insurance on works during shipment. Consent to reproduce works photographically, for publicity purposes, is assumed to be granted. All reasonable care will be taken with your works, but neither the St. Charles County Arts Council nor Best of Missouri Hands will be responsible for theft or damage incurred at the location. We recommend artists provide their own insurance coverage for each submission.

Participating artists are strongly encouraged to advertise this event. If each artist brings a few guests; the show will be a success for all. Artist will receive several JPEG graphics that can be printed and distributed or posted on their websites and social media. Feel welcome to post this call for artists, or forward it to other artists that may be interested.

Free & Open to the Public Artist Reception Friday, July 31st, 6 – 9 pm

Artists may take their work with them at the end of the reception, or pick up the next day. The gallery will be open 11 – 2 pm the following Saturday.

• 2010 Designed and created the awards for the Missouri Arts Council.
• 2013 Designed, fabricated, and installed a 10 foot tall steel public art sculpture in O’Fallon entitled “Passionate About Reading”
• 2013-present President of the St. Charles County Arts Council in O’Fallon.
• Active in organizing art exhibits.
• Guiding the council in new directions as far as exhibits and artists.
• Attracting new artists.
• Working with a growing board to involve local artists and the local community in art activities.
• Helped arrange St. Charles Community College classes at the Council.
