“I am not a glutton – I am an explorer of food.” – Erma Bombeck

Food can be comforting, seductive, sustenance, or a deadly obsession. It is the beating heart of culture and community; the object of thousands of years of technological progress, human migration, trade, and tradition; in more ways than one, we truly are what we eat. For centuries, artists have been captivated and compelled to use food as a vehicle to critique society, investigate politics, and explore gender and class. In 21st century America, what do we have an appetite for?

Let Them Eat Art!

will be back on Thursday April 3rd – a delicious CAL fundraising evening where we invite 10 local chefs to choose a work in the show as an inspiration for a tapas-style dish. Tickets are $35 and only 100 are available.

Information for submitting artists: Appetite is a juried show open to Columbia Art League members and non-members. Artists are invited to submit up to two works for the juror’s consideration. Artwork in all mediums is welcome. Artwork should be submitted on Friday 21st or Saturday 22nd February, 11am-5pm both days. The work will be juried on Sunday 23rd February and any work not selected should be picked up the following Monday or Tuesday. All work must be for sale, and preferably completed in the last two years. All work must be WIRED – we cannot hang work that does not have a wire – and should be labeled on the back with the artist’s name. Jury fees (per person, not per work) are $15 for CAL members and $25 for non-members.
