Corporate Member Spotlight: Peckham & Wright Architects, Inc

With 13 employees, Peckham & Wright Architects, Incorporated is considered a small company but a medium-sized architecture firm.

In speaking with Kimberly Trabue, it was obvious that this corporate member of The Best of Missouri Hands has a very strong commitment to the arts and their community.  The office is located at 15 South Tenth Street in Columbia, MO.

The business was formed in 1978 and one of the original founders, Bradley Wright, still sits at the helm.  Mr. Wright is an avid outdoorsman and has a keen appreciation of the environment and natural order.  He strives to apply environmentally sensitive and balanced solutions to all design and construction issues.

Through hard work and dedication, the firm has established an excellent reputation over the years, having designed for a variety of clients.  Peckham & Wright Architects’ work can be seen in many government and institutional-type facilities from local schools, fire stations, ambulance stations, parks to historical building preservation.  Their work can be found throughout Columbia and across the nation.

The PWA was green before it was keen.  The environment and surrounding community of any project the team works on is always in the forefront of their design aesthetics.  Building efficiency with smart design allows for a longer life cycle of a building and creates a greater sustainability not only for today but into the future.  The team strives to be on the leading edge of tomorrow’s technology and efficiency in all projects they are designing.

Good will, reputation and word-of-mouth are critical to a business such as the PWA.  Community involvement makes sense to the team.  It is a diverse group with an appreciation of the arts.  In an effort to give back to the community, PWA has opened their 10th Street window space to local artists and organizations such as the Boy Scouts and Ducks Unlimited.  It is just one way in which the firm supports the arts.  In fact, the PWA’s 10th Street Window Gallery was dedicated to the work of the Columbia area’s Best of Missouri Hands artists for the month of November.  Each month a new group or organization is given the opportunity to showcase their work in the window, and it is often booked a year in advance.  October featured the work of the local Weavers and Spinners group which also includes the work of BOMH members.

We are fortunate to have a corporate member such as the Peckham & Wright Architects, Inc as they care very much about their local community, the communities they design for and the arts.  This group of architects and their supporting staff are raising the bar for which buildings are designed. They take great pride in the work that they do while embracing Columbia as a whole.  Adding to the landscape, their designs complement the surrounding neighborhood.  To see some of their local designs and to learn more about this tight knit group, please visit their website at http://www.pwarchitects.com/index.htm .
