Northland Exposure Artists Gallery: Corporate Spotlight

Northland Exposure Artists Gallery

1. What is the mission of the Gallery?

The mission of the Northland Exposure Artists Gallery is to:

  • Offer local and regional Kansas City area artists a professional and affordable location to display and sell their work.
  • Provide the community an opportunity to experience local art.
  • Be an active member of the Kansas City area arts community.
  • Support the Kansas City area community with not-for-profit events.

2. When was it formed?

Northland Exposure Artists’ Gallery was founded by a Northland artist, Debbie Pfauth, who opened an art gallery in Smithville, Missouri. In 1999 the gallery was reorganized as a cooperative and moved to Parkville. The gallery has been in its present location on Main Street since March of 2005. Over the years Northland Exposure Artists’ Gallery has grown from a handful of dedicated artist-members to an art gallery comprised of nearly 50 award winning regional artists.

3. How does it function?

The gallery is totally owned and operated by the gallery members. We have a board of directors which is voted on by the gallery membership. Each gallery member serves on a committee or fills a position in running the gallery and works at the gallery 6 to 8 hours each month.

4. How many members are there?

We have room for about 50 artists but we currently have 40 members. Our members come from all over the metropolitan Kansas City area and represent a wide variety of art mediums and styles. We have oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor painters, mixed media, mosaic, and stained glass artists, photographers, potters, jewelers, and glass artists. The mix of mediums change as our membership changes but we always have artwork that will appeal to just about anyone. Our artist members participate in and receive awards from shows in Missouri and throughout the United States.

5. What types of activities and events does NEAG facilitate or participate in?

We have a variety of events throughout the year. This year we had a Valentines fundraiser for FOPAS (Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter), a Mother’s Day fundraiser for Synergy Services, and a Children’s Art Show for an area school.

6. Why does NEAG support BOMH as a corporate member?

As a group of artists we feel it is important to support our fellow artists in Kansas City and throughout Missouri, especially in these economic times. BOMH is an important organization to arts community in Missouri.

7. What is coming up for NEAG?

Our most immediate plans are for our annual Holiday Sale at the gallery on Friday, Dec. 7, Sat. Dec. 8, and Sun., Dec 9. We will be making plans for our 2013 events in the next few months. In 2013 we will be having fundraisers for local organizations as well as showing the unique high quality artwork of our local member artists.
