FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK – Fresh Gallery – Springfield, MO

First Friday is right around the corner for August, 2015. Normally, at Fresh Gallery, we like to highlight our artists during the First Friday festivities. For August, it is our pleasure to feature Amos Gott, an artist and designer from Columbus, OH.

“Drawing has been my first love from elementary school on. My most satisfying moments have been derived from the execution of a successful drawing or sketch.” says Amos Gott in an article he wrote in American Artist Magazine. Gott’s history is long and flourishing. He studied at The Art Institute of Chicago as well as under Boris Anisfeld and Helen Blackshear. In addition to a professional life of illustrating, designing and consulting, Gott also has a long resume of teaching, solo exhibits, group shows, published articles, awards and works in permanent collections.

Gott’s teaching experience spanned sixteen years in Ohio. He taught at Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art and Design, as well as Ohio University. His solo and group shows have a similar time span and could be seen in a variety of places in Ohio, including the Mayor’s office, Powell Historical Society, Beck Center for the Cultural Arts, and Gallery on High, just to name a few.

Gott strongly believes in keeping sketchbooks, visiting shows and exhibits, and working every day. When starting new works, Gott considers the picture plane, vantage point, and the relationship between the positive and negative shapes. Some pieces start as raw sketches to be refined in the studio and some are finished on the spot. Regardless of the process, Gott’s works are incredible. His pieces have a wide range from architectural renderings to traditional watercolors. Each piece is full of detail and life.

It is an honor for Fresh Gallery to have works by such a talented artist. Having moved to the Springfield area in recent years, Gott has agreed to display pieces that will represent his watercolor and drawing works. Fresh has a rare gift to share with the community.
