Hands Across Missouri – Cultural Corner Exhibit – Chillocothe, MO

The Best of Missouri Hands was honored to be contacted in January by one of Northwest Missouri’s newest and most stunning community gallery spaces about doing an exhibit. As a result, Hands Across Missouri opened on June 2nd at the Cultural Corner Art Guild and Gallery in Chillicothe Missouri and will run until July 7th, when there will be a closing reception from 5 to 8pm.

The 51 works selected for the exhibition exemplify the Midwest’s traditions of handmade arts and crafts through the creativity and artistry of these 18 artists:

Jamie Smith (Photography), Kathryn Leventhal-Arnold (Sculpture), Nancy Koehler (Painting), Lori Doty (Clay), Deby Gilley (Printmaking), Peggy King (Glass), Don Crozier (Photography), Darla Zook (Painting), Kirk Decker (Photography), Julie Sieving (Painting), John Whitt (Wood), Marcia Whitt (Fiber), Jessie Cargas (Sculpture), Annie Webster (Fiber), Kathy Gomric (Drawing), Lisa Brooke (Painting), Frances Crouch (Painting) and Kim Carr (Photography).

Works presented represent slices of life in the Midwest, a family of quail, hay bales in the Flint Hills, Autumn in the Ozarks, as well as abstract and fantasy, with some artists using vibrant colors to grab your eyes and others reaching into your subconscious. Rounding out the show are several pieces of functional furniture and glass.

Located in Chillicothe’s historic district, the Cultural Corner Art Guild and Gallery opened in September 2016 to rave reviews. It’s a beautiful space for art and art education classes, gallery exhibits, and artist-in-residence programs. Built in 1940, the building accommodated a number of businesses and was purchased by Cultural Corner in 2014. It underwent a complete interior remodel, revealing the barrel ceiling and exposed concrete floors that provide the modern industrial feel to the space.

Chillicothe was honored by the Missouri Arts Council as Missouri Arts Creative Community for 2016 for its flourishing array of artists, art lovers, nonprofit organizations, and businesses.

This exhibition is part of the BOMH On The Road series produced with support from the Missouri Arts Council.

Cultural Corner is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
