Fall has arrived, with its beautiful shades of oranges, reds, and browns. The winter hush of the Lake will soon be upon us. It’s time to light those fires and get out the woolly hats, mittens and scarves for those of us who remain in these hills in the winter. The suitcases and campers are being loaded for those who choose to go south to warmer climates. (Poor dears, they will miss our

big holiday event – see details below!)

OCTOBER RECAP: An amazingly warm and wonderful October hosted a wide variety of events at the Lake. The Lake Area Fiber Artists hosted their annual Festival in Camdenton October 10, which was wildly successful and bigger than ever. People came from all over, as this event has become a destination for many who love yarn and handmade items. Event chairs Jackie Krokson and Bonnie Black , and their committee are to be commended for an excellent job. The Ozark Brush & Palette Club hosted its first tent art show at the entrance to the Outlet Mall in Osage Beach, made possible through the efforts of club president Terry Cochran and committee members Mary Andeline, Donna Klamm, Vicki Neal, and myself. A dozen or so fine artists spent the day visiting with a sizable crowd and showing and selling their original art pieces. We raffled off a canvas print of Mary Andeline’s pelicans, and raised money for the Student Mentoring Program. I compiled a list of upcoming painting classes around the Lake for this show, so if you are interested, let me know and i will send it to you. Due to the number of community events involving the arts, classes at the Studio were scaled back, but DeAnna Amos managed to get another

Lotions & Potions class in, and held it in our newly expanded space at the Studio. She is planning to have one more before the holidays by special request, which will be gift-related, so watch for it!

NOVEMBER NEWS The big event for November is our Handmade Holiday Market, which will be Saturday, November 28 from 10-4. This is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, when we all wake up and think, “OMG, Christmas is less than a month away!” Some of us will still have family in town, and many folks head to the Outlet Mall or Amazon to do their shopping. This market will offer a rare and pleasant opportunity to shop local, and give handmade. You can purchase handmade items with personality and love built right in, and we are working hard to ensure there will be a wide selection under $50. So far we know there will be tree ornaments, wool scarves, hats, mittens, soaps, lotions, hummingbird feeders, aprons, place mats, pillows, jewelry, and bags. Everything will be quality handmade, beautiful, and local. Gravois Mills artist Suzanne Pointon has donated a gorgeous original abstract grass art piece for a raffle. Jackie Hughes with Creative Catering will be there with fruit, breads, cheeses, and wine punch. Musicians will be quietly playing throughout the day, and maybe even singing some holiday tunes while we shop. The studio is expanding into the entire floor of the building – a total of 2,500 sq. ft., and will be decorated in holiday attire Do NOT miss this event – it will be worth the trip, I promise! It will be a virtual shopping party with one-stop shopping, so bring your family and friends. If you want to participate in the market as a vendor, let me know and I will send you a registration form. You may choose to have your own “booth”, or consign your items with other makers and we will sell them for you. Consignment percentages will be based on whether or not you assist with the sales, and how much. If you just want to hang out and help in general, there is plenty to do, and i would appreciate any offers. The more people that get involved, the bigger and better the event!

As the holidays approach, I am reminded of all the wonderful things in my life – friends, family, health, and material things. This year I am particularly grateful for my new grandson Brennan, and to have met such an exceptional group of artisans and makers. It has been a joy to associate with you, to encourage you, and to promote your work in our community. That is the purpose of Lake Studio for the Arts. Thanks to all who have chosen to be a part, and have helped me make it happen.

What are you most grateful for this year?

Debbie
