Lake Studio of the Arts – March 2016 Newsletter

LAKE STUDIO FOR THE ARTS

March, 2016

From the Director,

Please pardon the unformatted and plain version of the Newsletter this month.  Because I was tardy pulling it together, Tina Campbell could not format it this months, as she has gone to be with her father in the hospital in Kansas City.  Lila Rudolph has not returned from the South yet, so I am on my own!   Now you can appreciate all the technical expertise Tina and Lila provide.  We truly miss you, Ladies!

The birds and emerging bulbs are screaming the arrival of spring, as our mild winter prepares for departure.   Spring is the abundant season of renewal –  the perfect time to discard  the old and put on the  new, both figuratively and literally.  If you are seeking new opportunities to  enjoy the arts at the Lake, they are all around us.

Regarding upcoming Studio classes, Connye Griffin is busy preparing for her next Writer’s Workshop to be continued this spring and summer.  Tracy Sutton will be offering kid’s painting classes, so watch for these new classes on the Events tab of the Facebook page.  Suzanne Pointon is planning some classes in her India dye inks.  Craig Halloran is introducing Zengtangle to a swarm of curious students.  Tina Campbell is offering her mixed media classes and will be having more sales of her supply of paints and wooden objects.   Jackie Hughes’ knitting classes continue to grow, as more people join in and experience the joy of knitting.

The Studio is again partnering with Unity at the Lake for its First Friday series, beginning April 1, featuring Sandy Miller, a painter from Laurie, along with Brian Clarke, singer/guitarist.  Save the dates for this series, which will continue throughout the summer.

For you Osage Beach knitters, I have great news – Jackie Hughes has expanded her knitting group into Dierberg’s in Osage Beach for Happy Hour starting March 24.  Private room.  Knitting.  Wine.  Wow!

Local businesses are  requesting galleries, displays, and events in their buildings.   It’s all very exciting and inspiring.    Hopefully you will see art everywhere you look throughout the Lake.

You won’t want to miss the Variety Showcase at School of the Osage March 12, sponsored by the Lake Arts Council.   The LAC is also sponsoring the Palm Sunday Art show at the Quality Inn March 19-20.   See their website at Artsatthelake.com for details.

An exciting new development on the Lake’s art scene is the Mysteries of the Orient – An Evening of Magic with Charlie Myrick on May 21.  Charlie is a mural painter and performed his own magic show in Las Vegas.  This will be a very special dinner show at the Stables in Sunrise Beach, sponsored by the Laurie Rotary Club for charity.  Tickets are on sale soon at all Central Bank locations, and at the Studio.

Artists throughout the lake area are expressing themselves in our community– through paint, fiber, wood, song, written word, poetry,  dance, and theater.   I hope you are able to attend and enjoy some of the events and classes coming up.   They will inspire you to renew your heart and mind.  Wake up to Spring!
