Looking Forward to 2019 and Beyond!

Wow! The weather in Missouri sure gives truth to the saying “if you don’t you like the weather, just wait a minute.” We have been through it all. January with 70-degree days that get the birds thinking it is time to look for a nesting site to huge snow falls that make the birds think about emigrating to a place where springtime is real. Crazy but getting to be kind of normal.

Spring really will come but not without a lot of false starts. For those of us in the Best of Missouri Hands spring usually means an upcoming art conference. This spring we are going to do something a bit different. At our ArtSmart Conference in Columbia last April, there was a huge interest in certain breakout sessions. The Spring Series will focus on these issues.

The BOMH Spring Series will happen across the state. There will be four sessions this spring. The most popular breakout at the conference last year was the very pertinent Social Media session. This will feature wonderful mentors who are also BOMH Board members, Kim Carr and Marcia Menendez. They are both well known for helping members get connected and building their online presence. The second always popular session will be about Jurying into Art Fairs and exhibitions.

Here is the list of locations and what will be presented where. We will start up the Spring Series in Hannibal, Missouri at the Hannibal Arts Council on March 9, 2019. This session will be the Social Media session. Along with this workshop we will also have Best of Missouri Hands Annual Meeting. You can come to the annual meeting which will happen after lunch. If you would like to attend the Annual Meeting but not the workshop that can be arranged. There will be online registration for these workshops.

The second workshop in the Spring Series will be in Cape Girardeau, MO at the Arts Council of Southeast, MO. This session will be on March 16, 2019. The session will be All about Jurying into an Art Fair. Participants will send in their photos and they will go through a mock jury session. Participants will also be able to have their booth shots Juried. After lunch we have a terrific opportunity to have professional photographer Sandy Brooks teach about the do’s and don’ts of photographing your own work. There will be a hands-on portion to this session.

Moving on to April, the first event will be on April 6, 2019. This session will be held in Mexico, MO at the Presser Performing Arts Center. This session will be the ever-popular Social Media workshop. Kim Carr will be presenting the Facebook segment and Marcia Menendez will be presenting Instagram. Bring your devices and Kim and Marcia will help you get connected.

The final of our four workshops of the Spring Series will take place near Kansas City for the City of Lee Summit, MO on April 13, 2019. And because it is such an important form of connecting with our customers, we will again produce the Social Media session. Kim and Marcia will be getting everyone ready to share their light and art work with the world. In the afternoon session Sandy Brooks will again teach about the do’s and don’ts of photographing your own work.

Lots of news to come. Think about which one or more that you would like to come to. We will announce when the online registration will be ready to go. We decided to do this hopefully to reach more members at a better, lower price and help folks who want to learn more about these valuable tools.

And just so you know, we are already planning for next year 2020 for another ArtSmart Conference. It should prove to be a wonderful and inspiring event. Your Board of Directors are always working ahead to try to serve you, our members and help further your artistic endeavors. Please keep up with us on the Best of Missouri Hands Members Page. If you have any questions, please post them there or talk to any of us.
