Marc Duke of Art-Linx at ARTSmart 2014

We’re excited to have Marc Duke of Art-Linx as our main speaker for ARTSmart 2014. Marc has worked as a writer, advertising creative director, gallery owner and corporate executive and has been taking pictures professionally since the 1960s. He keeps his finger on the pulse of the art-buying public through Art-Linx, known as “the incredible homepage for artists”.

Marc’s keynote address is entitled “Artists in the Post-Recession World; Remaking Our Businesses and Careers”. How has the market changed since the recession and what can artists do to adapt to the new realities of the art marketplace? To answer those questions, Marc will draw on his relationships with gallery and wholesale art sectors as well as research among 13,000 artists and crafters and more than 300 fairs and festivals.

He will also explore various alternatives for sales, from using the world wide web to wholesaling to art festivals–and some non-traditional approaches, such as private house parties, fundraisers and art association tie-ins. He will also discuss the current state of the gallery and wholesale art sectors.

Marc wants to instill enthusiasm and confidence in the artist community and do away with the more prevalent “doom and gloom” heard in the art world.
