Faith Bemiss, owner of Faith Bemiss Photography in Sedalia and juried member of BOMH, has been selected to have a photo shown at the 1650 Gallery and Studio in Los Angeles, CA, in the “Flower Power 2012 Juried Exhibition.” Faith’s “Queen Anne’s Lace,” a 16-by-20-inch digitally manipulated and layered photo was one of 55 photos chosen to hang in the exhibition that received international entries. An artist’s reception was held at the gallery Saturday, December 15. Kathy Czopek’s watercolor painting, “Circus Color,” was juried into the exhibition at “Artists’ Day at Circus Flora” at Art St. Louis. It was also chosen for use on posters and other graphics for the show. She was one of several artists who donated handcrafted ornaments for “Bells and Bowls” at St. Louis Artists’ Guild. She also participated in the “Artists’ Trunk Show” at Chesterfield Arts in Chesterfield, MO. Three of Kathy’s pieces are currently on display at the Northern Arts Council’s Winter Exhibition at Cork Wine Bar in Ferguson, MO through March 2013. Her painting “Broccoli” was also juried into the exhibition “Watercolor II,” at the Foundry Art Center in St. Charles, MO, where it will be on display through February 1.

BOMH juried member, Alicia Farris was featured in the December 2012 issue of Springfield Lifestyle Magazine. She had a full page interview about her art, what inspires her, her background, and where she is showing her work. Several images of her paintings were also published:

In addition to her work being shown at Fresh Gallery in Springfield and Art Impressions in Sedalia, Alicia has a one-person show now through February 9 at Nearly Famous Deli in Springfield, MO.

Claire Medol Hyman’s work was juried into the WCA Group Show “Man Up” in Ann Arbor, MI and the WCA Group Show at St. Louis University Museum. In 2012, Claire produced solo shows for the Ethical Society of St. Louis MO at the Kirkwood Train Station and the Contemporary Art Museum Open Studio.

Kim Kenney, BOMH juried artist in the wood category, was invited and is currently participating in the invitational wood exhibit, “Forest to Form – the Beauty of Wood” through January 27 in the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff, MO. The goal of the exhibit is to display a diverse array of wood. The museum, a Victorian-era house, was built in 1883 and is located in the southeast Missouri town of Poplar Bluff (pop. 17,023). Poplar Bluff serves as a cultural, commerce, and educational hub of seven surrounding counties with a population of 154,543. This year the museum is celebrating its 31st anniversary.

Artha Labath’s 3D artistic designs were on display at the 2012 Silver Dollar City show. Her Double Wall Cherokee Picnic Basked (pictured) was awarded second place and earned a best of show ribbon. In 2011, Artha took first at the same show for her Double Wall Milk Can.

Kenneth Marine, a glass artist of Hollister, MO has been selected by the Missouri Arts Council to make the 2013 awards that will be presented February 6 at the State Capitol in Jefferson City.

Beginning in March, she will also teach continuing watercolor classes at St. Charles Community College on Monday evenings and watercolor classes at the Oasis Center for Senior Adults in O’Fallon, MO. Nena G. Potts, of Nena Jewelry Designs, was chosen as a finalist in the Saul Bell Design Competition, a nationally known competition sponsored by Rio Grande, a large jewelry trade industry supplier. Her neckpiece, called “Roman Crown” (pictured), was selected in the category of enameling. Winners will be chosen in January.

Lori Radford, a Best of Missouri Hands Juried member, from Highlandville, MO has finished her master’s degree in Counseling and is now starting a business titled “Healing Journeys” that incorporates using art and creative expression in a therapeutic setting. She will be offering personal counseling and doing therapeutic art groups in the Springfield and surrounding areas. “I strongly believe in the healing power of creating and viewing art,” she said. “Expressing myself through art was the one thing that helped me process and escape from a difficult family environment as a child, and continues to be a stress reliever for me as an adult! My new direction hasn’t left much time for me to focus on my own art, however, my overall goal was to combine my passion for art with my counseling degree. I can now share this creative and healing path with others and help them improve their lives!

Mary Beth Shaw will be part of a four person show “In The Mix” opening at The Foundry in St. Charles on February 8. She will be teaching workshops around the United States and in Italy during 2013. Trails West!® Call for Artists, Crafters and Food Vendors: Trails West!® is an outdoor arts festival celebrating the unique cultural heritage of St. Joseph, Missouri. Now in its 21st year, the festival features fine arts, fine craft and unique foods.  This is a juried festival with room for approximately 60 fine artists and crafters and 25 food vendors. Trails West!® welcomes all genres and subject matter of artistic expression. While the festival’s ambiance is historic, the arts and crafts do not need to represent our history. Trails West!® is the largest festival in northwest Missouri and draws audiences from over 100 miles including southeast Nebraska, northeast Kansas, southwest Missouri and Kansas City. Last year the festival recorded over 40,000 visits over the three days.
