Dinise Mustain recently won 1st and 2nd place in the Fayette Festival of the Arts for her botanical collages. She is excited to be creating again after a 3 year hiatus. Dinise grows and presses a large variety of flowers and herbs that she gathers from the land on which she lives. As a newly retired teacher, she is looking forward to focusing on new work.

Kathy FieldsKathy Fields was recently presented with Best of Category Award in jewelry at the Sneake Alley Art Fair held in Burlington Iowa, on June 17th, 2012.

Jeane Vogels’ work, “ If Wishes Were Horses….,” a mixed media on paper, was accepted in the Women’s Caucus for Art International Biennial exhibit, Contemporary Women Artists XVI, Longevity. The exhibit will hang in the St. Louis University Museum of Art from Aug. 24 – Oct. 10. She also is exhibiting a new body of mixed media work at the Midwest Salute to Art, Aug. 24-26, Long Acre Park in Fairview Heights, and in the River Arts Fest in Memphis, TN October 26-28. Because of the severe storm damage sustained in April, she has moved her studio to 3664 Arsenal, St. Louis, MO 63118.

For the second time, Rose Monzyk, milliner, was selected to receive a Hatty Award. The editors of Hat Life Magazine select 30 milliners from entries from around the world. Representatives of Hat Life Magazine state, “We honor hat makers, retailers and suppliers who surpass our expectations for excellence. They are dedicated, talented and make a difference in the world at large and in the Hat Hemisphere. We applaud these people (and companies) by giving out our most coveted award – The Hatty Award.

Mary Beth ShawMary Beth Shaw recently returned from leading a workshop in Durfort, France and another workshop in Phoenix, AZ. She will be teaching in Chicago, IL at the end of August. She opened her Lafayette Square studio for the St. Louis Contemporary Art Museum’s Open Studio event in July. Her book, Flavor for Mixed Media, published by NorthLight, has gone into second printing. She will be participating as an exhibitor in the St. Louis Art Fair Sept 7-9, 2012.

Pat MehaffyPat Mehaffy of Branson, Mo. won several ribbons at the 2012 Ozark Empire Fair with her Porcelain Painting. She was acknowledged in the following three categories in the China Painting Division. Pat is President of the Tablerock Porcelain Artists. The group meets at the Senior Center on Compton Dr. in Branson, Mo. Awards: Special Techniques, 1st place, “Framed Chicken Family” painting; Fruits/Vegetation, 3rd place, “Baby Birds and Blackberries” plate; Other, 3rd place, “Winter Time” necklace.

Kris Scharfenberger with 3D CampKris Scharfenberger recently developed and led 5 weeks of summer arts enrichment camps for young people. The picture featured shows Kris with a group participating in a 3D art camp. The kids used “recyclable trash” among other things to create miniature furniture. Kris says, “The campers had a blast, you could hear a pin drop, they were soooo into their creations, it’s just incredible. I told the parents to stop buying toys and video games, these young artists were engaged for hours!” Kris has developed and facilitates a successful after school arts enrichment program that serves the St. Louis Region.

Bill MerrittJuried BOMH artist Bill Merritt was awarded First Place in the Craft and Fiber Art Category at the 30th Annual High Country Arts & Crafts Festival held in Eagle Nest, New Mexico, July 28-29. Each of the more than 70 attending artists selected one piece to be judged in one of the four recognized categories. Merritt entered a multiple-station hummingbird feeder he designed and constructed in copper and repurposed glass. He received a blue ribbon and a cash award. Sponsored by the Eagle Nest Chamber of Commerce, the High Country Arts & Crafts Festival is a proud tradition of juried talent that brings many area and out-of-state artists to the Moreno Valley area each summer. Located on the Enchanted Circle between Angel Fire and Red River, Eagle Nest is surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and is home to the beautiful Eagle Nest Lake.

Katherine Ehlmann, fabric artist, won two awards at the fashion show at the recent Missouri Fiber Artist Conference which was held at Tan-Tar-A Resort in May, 2012. She received an award in “Color Mastery in Dying and Painting on Fabric”, and in “Perfect Craftsmanship”.

Cindy Dietrich Logan was accepted in Missouris top 50 at the State Fair. Cindy is also pleased to announce that of the eight awards given in the Junior 50; 4 were awarded to her students. Cindy lives and teaches in Louisiana, MO.

John PreusworkJohn Preus, of Rocheport, MO had a one person exhibition at the Kansas City Clay Guild, August 4 – 18.

Hungry Babies, Clark WillettClark Willett, Nature As Is LLC, participated in the following events for 2012: Queeny Park Art Fair, March 30 – April 1, St. Louis; Art Center and Gallery, GSLAA Show, April 16 – May 12, Washington MO; Spring Bloom, April 28, Bloomington, Illinois; Art & Wine Fest, May 18 – 20, Washington MO; Webster Groves Art and Air, June 1 –June 3; Crown Valley Winery Art Fair, June 15 – 17; Missouri Artists on Main Gallery, St. Charles, MO. Exhibiting from June until present.

Claire Hyman opened her University City, MO. Studio: Contemporary Art Museum City Wide Open Studio. Her Regenerate Series work, “Rosette VI” was in Women’s Caucus for the Arts, “Man Up” juried show at Univ. MI., Ann Arbor, MI. Her show, “Pressed and Painted” is hanging at the Ethical Society in St. Louis MO. Her next show of large, “Pressed and Painted” will be at the vintage Kirkwood Station Arts Gallery, in Kirkwood, MO, in early October, date TBA.

Allison Norfleet Bruenger accepts awardAllison L. Norfleet Bruenger received a “Merit Award” at the Midsummer Arts Faire held in Quincy, IL. She will be a “Featured Artist” at Grafica’s Contemporary Fine Art and Framing “3rd Thursday” event on August 16th in Webster Groves, MO.

Angel BrameAngel Brame had a piece accepted in the Tea Bowl National competition. The KC Clay Guild Tea Bowl National will take place from August 17-September 28 at the Thornhill Gallery on the campus of Avila University, 11901 Wornall, KCMO. Seventy fabulous tea bowls will be on display. On Friday, August 17th, all eliglible tea bowls will be for sale at the opening reception from 6-8 pm.

Kenneth MarineKenneth Marine, glass artist from Hollister, MO, recently completed over 400 glass orbs for a permanent art installation called “TRANSITIONS” in a new building on the Texas Tech campus. It represents the students entering Texas Tech and then being sent out to make a difference in the world. The orbs are in shades, combinations, and patterns of orange, yellow, green, and blue and then all the orbs exiting have a touch of Texas Tech red on them. Keith states, “ We had issues with the red not working and lost several days of work and feared we wouldn’t make deadline….but we did it. It took a team effort to get every orb hung in place – 6 guys worked six 14 hour days to get it all installed.”
