Nina Miller uses RAC grant to create new art

I was recently awarded a grant from RAC (Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis) to further explore my connection to my Jewish faith. I have created Judaic glass art for several years, and after taking a ceramics class I wanted to expand my Judaic art to include hand-built clay pieces.

I will use the grant to take additional classes, buy clay and glazes, and create mezuzot, chanukkiot, tzedakah boxes, and havdalah sets. During the pandemic, I have found faith to be a comfort, and one “pandemic plus” has been the livestreaming of services, enabling me to attend much more often. As my faith deepens, I want to share it with others through art. This is the first mezuzah I’ve made, and it has only had its first firing, so it will be glazed and fired again.
