Description:  Cornhusk characters are portrayed working at crafts from bygone days or playing simple games.  Research into the historical details of the era provide authenticity to each creation.

Artist Statement: My grandma taught me how to make my first cornhusk doll when I was 10.  She was very influential in my life and taught me many important life skills.  Teaching others about how our ancestors lived is important to me and I do this through my doll-making and storytelling.  I create traditional cornhusk dolls but my favorites are my original pieces that I place on native Missouri red granite and stones from creek beds.  My main goal in doll-making is to be original, detailed and to make each doll’s movements appear as natural and realistic as possible.  I strive to be authentic and use natural materials in my creations.  Most of all, I want people to enjoy my work and perhaps bring back a fond memory.  I continue to learn and improve my craft to become the best artist I can be.  I am happy when creating my dolls.  Art is part of who I am and cornhusk doll-making is my art.
