SRAC WEEKLY UPDATE ON ARTS IN OUR REGION
|
|
The SRAC invites artists to tap into their subconscious, channel the surrealists, and invoke fictitious landscapes for this fun new twist on the printmaking show. The exhibit will open with a free, public reception during First Friday Art Walk, December 4, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and will remain on display through Thursday, January 7, 2016.
“Printmakers’ art reveals itself with an instant of discovery–the ‘ah-ha’ moment–with each press run,” says Roxie Castro, Springfield Printmakers Group Representative. We are looking for any printed media that is made by hand and exploring intaglio, etching, relief printing, wood cuts, lino block, monotype, lithography, letter press, self-publishing with zine hand-made book (may contain photographs), hand-made papers of varied textures, or book arts of fascinating folds. Applications Due by November 20
The holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time once again for WinterFest at Juanita K. Hammons Hall! This season marks the 21st year for this annual visual and performing arts festival- showcasing works by some of the region’s best visual artists, live holiday music by local ensembles in the lobby, and evening performances by national touring artists in the theatre.
This year’s festival will be held December 4-6, 2015, and Juanita K. Hammons Hall is delighted to invite vocal and instrumental music ensembles from schools, churches, and community groups to be a part of this holiday arts tradition. Groups will perform 30-minute sets on the Promenade Balcony Stage, located just above the box office in the main lobby. Please note that due to the acoustics of the multi-level lobby, chamber ensembles, choirs, handbells, strings, or woodwind groups tend to work best in this space.
If you are interested in getting your ensemble on the schedule this year, please complete the “ Call for Performers” and return to Anjie Nowell by email, mail, or fax listed on the application by Friday, November 20.

S pringfield Little Theatre presents Miracle on 34th Street
November 27-December 13, 2015
Kris Kringle takes on the cynics among us in this musical adaptation of the popular holiday favorite. In his inimitable style, Meredith Willson, the author of The Music Man and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, tells us the classic story of the year. A white-bearded gentleman claiming to be the real Santa Claus brings about a genuine Miracle on 34th Street, spreading a wave of love throughout New York City, fostering camaraderie between Macy’s and Gimbel’s Department Stores, and convincing a divorced, cynical single mother, her somber daughter, and the entire state of New York that Santa Claus is no myth. Based on the 20th Century Fox Picture with story by Valentine Davies and screenplay by George Seaton.
