SRAC WEEKLY UPDATE ON ARTS IN OUR REGION
December 4 at 5:00pm
The SRAC invites patrons to “Dreamscape: Printmakers, Paperworks, & Pressed Pieces” during a free, public reception during First Friday Art Walk, December 4, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and will remain on display through Thursday, January 7, 2016 at The Creamery Arts Center.
“Printmakers’ art reveals itself with an instant of discovery–the ‘ah-ha’ moment–with each press run,” says Roxie Castro, Springfield Printmakers Group Representative. We are looking for any printed media that is made by hand and exploring intaglio, etching, relief printing, wood cuts, lino block, monotype, lithography, letter press, self-publishing with zine hand-made book (may contain photographs), hand-made papers of varied textures, or book arts of fascinating folds. Click here for more details.
Winterfest 2015

Friday through Sunday, December 4-6

The holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time once again for WinterFest at Juanita K. Hammons Hall! This season marks the 21st year for this annual visual and performing arts festival. The weekend showcases works by some of the region’s best visual artists, live holiday music by local ensembles in the lobby, and evening performances by national touring artists in the theatre. This year’s WinterFest features artists such as The Reduced Shakespeare Company and Nnenna Freelon.
Fridays-Sundays, December 4-13
Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first Roller Disco! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

Warning: This production contains disco balls, leg warmers and chart-topping hits.

Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $28 for adults and $25 for seniors (55 and over) or students. Student Rush Tickets (if seats are available) are sold 30 minutes before each performance for $10. Group rates are available for parties of 12 or more. For tickets, call the box office at 417-831-8001 or click here.
Springfield Little Theatre presents Miracle on 34th Street

Thursday-Sundays, December 3-13
Kris Kringle takes on the cynics among us in this musical adaptation of the popular holiday favorite. In his inimitable style, Meredith Willson, the author of The Music Man and
The Unsinkable Molly Brown, tells us the classic story of the year. A white-bearded gentleman claiming to be the real Santa Claus brings about a genuine Miracle on 34th Street, spreading a wave of love throughout New York City, fostering camaraderie between Macy’s and Gimbel’s Department Stores, and convincing a divorced, cynical single mother, her somber daughter, and the entire state of New York that Santa Claus is no myth. Based on the 20th Century Fox Picture with story by Valentine Davies and screenplay by George Seaton.
To purchase tickets, call the Springfield Little Theatre Box Office at 417-869-1334 or click here.
Springfield Ballet Nutcracker

Thursday-Sundays, December 17-20
This timeless holiday classic follows Clara and her Nutcracker from an extravagant Christmas party to a fierce battle with the evil Mouse Queen, then on a magical journey through the Enchanted Forest of Snow and the Land of Sweets. Purchase your tickets here or by calling The Landers Box Office at 417-869-1334.
Saturday, December 12 at 10:00am
Come celebrate the holidays with the SRAC for free holiday fun and snacks – all before the Springfield Christmas Parade. The annual Holiday Free Art Day at The Creamery Arts Center takes place on Saturday, December 12 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Everyone is invited to create and take home items from hands-on art activities. All supplies are provided by the SRAC. Just bring your imagination and creative ideas!

December 12 at 2:00pm

The annual Christmas Parade will take place in downtown Springfield on December 12 at 2:00pm. With this year’s theme “Golden Christmas Memories,” the parade will feature more than sixty floats, ten marching bands, and Santa Claus himself. The parade will wind through Park Central Square and will end at Jordan Valley Park.
