The New Year Revolution

Here we are at the start of a brand-new year.  I hope the holidays brought you some joy and merriment, as well as offering a chance to rest and relax.  This time of year offers an invitation of reflection and anticipation.  I personally grew up with the annual New Year’s Resolution that always seemed to set me up for failure.  Whether it was a new diet or strict exercise regiment, the idea of a resolution seemed so rigid and absolute. And I was never good with that pressure!

I dropped the practice of making New Year Resolutions years ago. Recently, I began choosing a “Word of the Year” to help set my intention and clarify my focus for the coming year.  This chosen word helps to add guidance in all aspects of my life, from the artwork I want to create to the relationships I continue to nurture.  My word for 2022 is FLUID.  Lots of transitions and changes have occurred over the past couple years and this year I am ready to go with the flow.  I am promoting this movement in my life.  Some ideas I already have going are experimenting with new techniques in my clay work, using technology to promote my art journaling, and practicing better communication in my personal relationships.

I just recently saw the phrase, “New Year’s Revolution.”   The definition of revolution is a sudden, radical, or complete change.  I was intrigued with this idea, so I dove deeper to look at the origins of the word.  It comes from the Latin word, “revolution” a turn around. In reference to celestial bodies, “revolucioun” one apparent rotation about the earth.  The word became known to mean “an action on the part of an object or person of turning round or moving round a point.”

So, I invite you to take a look at this year ahead.  What are your intentions? What do you hope to change? How can you start this new revolution for 2022?  I challenge you to put words to it, begin the manifestation of your hopes and dreams.  May you find the strength and courage to live your best life!  Happy New Year!
