Two Day Acrylic Mixed-Medium Painting Workshop with Janice Schoultz Mudd

Saturday, January 30 and
Sunday, January 31, 2016
Artists working in Mixed Media and with Collage tend to be somewhat adventurous, wondering how they can implement a newly discovered material, method or object into their work.  “How do I make my own unique papers for collage?” “How can I use some of this junk in my drawer creatively?” “What about Tyvek?” “How can I use acrylic mediums to achieve unusual effects?”  “What will happen will if I apply a heat gun to dried acrylic paint?”  To love mixed media painting and collage requires that you love experimentation.

Janice Schoultz Mudd is a mixed media painting and collage artist whose artwork is the result of continual experimentation.  In this two day workshop, we will explore a variety of materials and techniques you can use to make your mixed media work a truly unique expression whether you work in an abstract or representational format. Students can expect to complete one or more finished pieces during the weekend.

Janice’s two day workshop will begin with focusing on a series of projects in which we explore techniques used for the decorative treatment of papers and will result in a library of resources for use in your artwork.

This will include: Acrylic paint and medium application and removal, Mark-making with something other than a brush, pencil or pen,  Stenciling, Stamping, Staining, Crumpling, Tearing, Scratching, Resist, Image Transfer and more.

During the course of the afternoon you will have a chance to begin your painting. Janice will talk about various methods of adhesion and demonstrate how you can use acrylic mediums in your work for texture and special effects.

As we move into Day 2, Janice will demonstrate ways to create texture with paper, foil and found objects. You will have a chance to transform your found and purchased objects into your own unique collage components. And you will have plenty of time to work on your painting(s) with individual input and assistance from Janice all day long.
