How to photograph art with a digital point and shoot camera.

Emphasis will be on “Digital Photography Basics” to help artists take better photographs of their artwork for use on the internet, to enter art fairs and competitions and to make Giclée prints. Whether you are a beginner or have a lifetime of experience with digital cameras you will gain a wealth of insights and ideas as Garry shows you the “tricks of the trade” he has mastered through thirty years of commercial photography. Registered participants will be sent a questionnaire to determine your photography skill level and what you want to learn. The workshop will then be customized to fulfill participants needs.
   Photographing a painting with  a digital single lens reflex camera.

Some of the subjects that will be covered:
  • An overview of your camera & its settings.
  • How to properly set/change your color balance, ISO, and digital resolution.
  • Equipment and set-up to photograph 2-D artwork.
  • How to zoom-in/crop, straighten and square-up your image.
  • How to correct the exposure & color balance.
  • Photograph your artwork outdoors using daylight as the light source.
  • Simple techniques to photograph your artwork indoors with supplementary lighting.
  • Basic discussion of digital file formats and how to prepare your files for submission to exhibits and art fairs.
What you will need:

  • Your camera (digital only)
  • Your camera’s instruction book (very important)
  • A tripod if you have one (Extra tripods are available. you don’t need to purchase one for this seminar).
  • Artwork to photograph (optional – not to exceed 18×24).

HOW MUCH:  $65.00.  The workshop is limited to 10 participants. Fee covers 5-hour workshop, coffee & refreshments, snacks and pizza/salad lunch. No refunds if you cancel after February 3rd unless someone takes your place.
