The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) to select a Best of Missouri Hands Juried Artist to create Missouri Humanities Awards

We are pleased to announce that the Missouri Humanities Council will select a BOMH juried artist to create the award pieces to be presented at the 2013 Missouri Humanities Awards Ceremony. The Missouri Humanities Awards celebrate the accomplishments of people who have made exceptional contributions to our understanding of Missouri, its people, and its stories.

Each year the Missouri Humanities Council confers awards on individuals and organizations whose achievements set an example worthy of statewide attention. The awards recognize outstanding teaching in Missouri schools, outstanding community outreach activities by individuals and humanities institutions, and exemplary achievement in literary works. The award artist will be recognized at the ceremony and in the media as well as invited to attend the ceremony in Jefferson City. The artist will also be featured in the Awards Ceremony program.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all BOMH juried artists working in 3D medium, regardless of race, gender, religion, age, nationality, origin or disability.

PROJECT BUDGET: $65.00 per award, (10 awards @ $65.00 = $650.00) This budget is inclusive and must cover artist’s fees, materials & fabrication.

SELECTION PROCESS: The selection panel is comprised of MHC staff and selected individuals with experience in visual arts expertise and or who are involved in humanities related fields. MHC welcomes submissions including, glass, wood, metal and mixed media. The submissions will be evaluated based on artistic quality, professional qualifications and proven ability to undertake and complete the project. While pieces are not expected to by identical, they must be very similar in appearance. MHC is not obligated to choose from the entries , if, in its opinion they are not appropriate.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS:

  • Cover letter with artist, resume,  contact information and artist statement
  • 3 images of work – JPG format, 300 dpi, 400 KB max. Label with last name & #1 –3
  • Numbered image list with title, medium, dimensions, brief description
  • Resume

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Thursday, November 1, 2012 – 5:00 pm

DEADLINE FOR WORK TO BE DELIVERED TO MHC OFFICE: Friday, March 29, 2013

While the award pieces need not be identical, they should be as similar in appearance as possible.
