American Craft Week

When you see those back-to-school ads you know one thing…

It’s time to gear up for American Craft Week!

Are you signed up? If not, do that today. Just click here.

Do you need event ideas? Here are a few we noticed from our current participants:

  • The 60’s are coming! The 60’s are coming! The Cumberland County (PA) Historical Society is doing a 60’s themed exhibit with tie dye and spin art – how fun is that?
  • In South Carolina, 6 artists, calling themselves the Full Moon Artists, are banding together to do classes along with an exhibit and sale of their work. This was a huge success for them last year with lots of local media coverage.
  • Felting and pumpkins are trending! Making a needle felted creature or decorating a pumpkin are easy and economical family crafts.

Have you voted for your favorite craft community? We are hosting a contest right now to name the Top Ten Towns for Craft Lovers. You can vote once each day on our website and the contest will continue until August 30. Click here to vote now.

Rev up your publicity! Do a basic media release and sent it to your local paper, TV and radio station, and to US, info@americancraftweek.com. Send us pictures too! We need them to publicize your event!

American Craft Week continues to grow! We welcome and thank new sponsors:

  • BlueRidge National Heritage Area
  • Delaware Craft Week
  • Extraordinary Alexandria
  • Tamarack Foundation
  • Tennessee Craft

This year’s theme Craft Creates … is beautifully executed by Zeber Martell Gallery & Clay Studio in Akron, OH.

Their event is titled: Mugs for Recovery

The theme is: Craft Creates … Healing

They are inviting people who have, or are, recovering from addiction to make/decorate mugs with impressed words, applied symbols and carved images that convey the positive impact recovery has made in their lives. Participants will work with artists at the ZM Studio to express their struggle, growth and change and the positive outcome of recovery through the visual and tactile medium…clay.

The mugs will be glazed, fired and shown during American Craft Week. They will be displayed with a short Artist’s Statement (anonymity respected) expressing the positive impact of recovery as an inspiration to others. The special exhibit will open Friday, October 9 and guests will be encouraged to bid in a silent auction for the mugs. Proceeds will benefit 91.3’s Rock and Recovery Program.

Three cheers for Zeber Martell! We love that they are incorporating this year’s theme in such a wonderful event!

And we close with another WOW…the billboard motorists will see from August 15 to October 15 on Route 322 between Hershey and Harrisburg, PA. Thanks, Cumberland Valley!
