Did you have fun out at the First Friday with the Arts Pets Night Out? The Arts Council welcomed 350 two-legged gallery guests, and many four-legged friends as well! Human guests had the opportunity to enjoy wine and snack on the delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Celebrations Restaurant while out front furry friends enjoyed treats from Mississippi Mutts.

See photos from throughout the evening at the Arts Council’s Facebook album here. Thank you to everyone who came out, and especially those who voted for their favorite piece! The People’s Choice Award for June goes to:

The long-awaited national juried exhibition Wild Things is finally here! It was a pleasure to have Ruth Ann Reese join us to select the awards and attend the reception. Award winners are included below, but an in-person visit is needed to complete the experience. The exhibition will be on display until June 27, so there is plenty of time for a summer visit to the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri galleries!

To read Reese’s juror statement in full, you can pick up a program at the Arts Council or read online at:

We would also like to thank Busch’s Pet Products & Care for sponsoring our Best in Show award and sharing the resources they support and provide including a new partnership with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank to help Howie’s Harvest Pet Food Bank. The program helps families in need provide nutritious food for their furry family members!

Wondering why there are fewer Arts Council of Southeast Missouri Staff Members around this week? It is because Murielle & Liz will be attending the Americans for the Arts 2015 Annual Convention! We can’t wait to learn from experts in the field on topics from Translating Impact to Empowering Culture to Creating Tomorrow.

The Arts Council will remain open during regular gallery hours. Arts Council Summer Intern Samantha Schaefer has got us covered, so come on in from 10 am – 4pm to see the Wild Things exhibition!

Willam Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

And you’ll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic port,
Aboard this tiny ship…
