Best of Missouri Hands: On the Road – The World We Create

The Best of Missouri Hands is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and recognition of Missouri’s artists and artisans. BOMH currently has approximately 400 members representating artists, arts educators, the general public, businesses and organizations.  Juried membership represents a diverse range of art forms and mediums, all of which exhibit the highest level of artistic quality and craftsmanship.

In an effort to showcase the vast and diverse talent of BOMH members, a show, “On The Road,” has been a part of an exhibit circuit for several years with shows all over the state of Missouri. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a hold on these shows.  BOMH is excited to announce that the show will resume in 2023 at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin this fall.

Best of Missouri Hands presents “On The Road-The World We Create” will be held at Spiva Center for the Arts from August 19, 2023 through October 6, 2023 with an opening reception on Friday, August 18th from 5:30 to 8:30.

“The World We Create” can hold any meaning.  A quick look around in any setting showcases the vast amount of art in everything from architecture and design to color theory and arrangement.  There is nothing in our lives, from building design to fine art to food to functional every day items that didn’t start with creativity.  BOMH has challenged its members to look at the title and reveal what it means through their art.

Please join Spiva Center for the Arts and BOMH in celebrating the artists of the state and all of the beauty they have to offer.

DETAILS:

I am writing to invite you to a Best of Missouri Hands “On the Road-The World We Create” exhibit that will be in the Four States Gallery at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin.  This is an exhibit for 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional work with a subject manner spotlighting the world around you and creative processes.  Just a simple look out of any window exposes architecture, design, nature, color theory, etc.  The world can be as small as your neighborhood or as vast as the entire planet.

The exhibit will be on display August 18, 2023 through October 6, 2023.  Installation will be the week of August 7, 2023.  Spiva Center for the Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm.  There will be an opening reception on Friday, August 18th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

This is a unique opportunity to showcase BOMH artists.  Spiva Center for the Arts has recently moved in to their new, state of the art, spectacular facility.  We have an incredible opportunity to help bring statewide attention to the brand new gallery as well as the diverse, incredible talent of the BOMH members.  Each member can submit up to three pieces for display, with the understanding that space may dictate that not all submitted pieces will be hung.  Each piece of artwork needs to be framed and ready to hang or display.  Jewelry is allowed, but no locking cases are available. Spiva Center for the Arts will be able to make sales on works and will retain a 40% commission.  Size and weight restrictions are listed on the Call For Entry. The Four States Gallery is large with moveable walls.  Pedestals are available for 3-dimensional work.  Let’s make sure to fill the space!

Members in the St Charles and Kansas City area have graciously volunteered to be drop off points for works.  Members in Joplin and Kansas City have also volunteered to pick up works and deliver to Spiva Center for the Arts.  Additionally, pieces can be shipped directly to Angel Brame and held until drop off.  Return shipping to be paid for by the artist.  BOMH would like to see the entire state represented, so please reach out for any additional questions or requests for getting work to Joplin.

Important dates:

  • ASAP-any images of pieces available for the exhibit to drgnflysnmud@gmail.com for marketing purposes
