LOSS OF AN ARTIST – Janet Scherrer

Our hearts are very heavy as we have lost three very kind souls and talented artists in the past several months.  The Scherrer Family had an abundance of God given talent and were as sweet and down to earth as could be.

In November Steve Scherrer passed away unexpectedly, leaving a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew him.  This past Thursday a devastating tragedy once again struck this close knit family as the lives of both Janet and Eric were taken, leaving Steve and Janet’s daughter Amy to put what pieces she can back together.

This photo was taken last August at Celebrate Wildwood where the family shared a large tent while exhibiting their work.  Each with a very strong voice of their own.  Steve a well recognized sculpture, while each of the kids had their own style and flare….Amy a mixed media artists and painter has a line of note cards and wall art while Eric worked in pastels and other mediums to create the likeness of Greek Gods and Roman Rulers.  Janet did not exhibit at this show, opting to help her family out instead.  For those of us who knew Janet, she had a smile as big as her heart.  She was a juried Best of Missouri Hands artists who’s finely crafted jewelry and raku work could be found at both the Waverly House in Springfield and Bluestem Missouri Crafts in Columbia.  Janet was deeply respected not only as an artists but for her kindness and warmth.  The loss this family has endured is devastating to say the least.

Our deepest sympathy to Amy, her family and to all those who have been saddened by the loss of  Janet, Eric and Steve.

Mass for both Janet and Eric will be at the Assumption Catholic Church 4725 Mattis Road @ 10am 6/24
