MOSAICS Art Festival – News update for Dec 2015

MOSAICS Missouri Festival for the Arts recently made both a monetary and a child-created Quilt project donation to the Mercy Health Foundation St. Louis. These donations were made as a result of the non-profit art association’s 2015 Festival event, specifically from the MOSAICS Festival’s “Children’s Village” and the “Art for Youth Gallery”.

The $420 check and the special Quilt were presented by MOSAICS Board President Richard Baum to Howard Schlansky, MD, medical director of pediatrics for Mercy Clinic St. Louis and Joseph Kahn, MD, president of Mercy Kids. The check presentation took place on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Mercy Kids Mid Rivers facility, located at 4525 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville, Missouri.

The 2015 MOSAICS Festival – which took place September 18-20, 2015 on Historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri – featured approximately 100 juried artists from 21 states across America. During the 2015 MOSAICS Festival, Mercy Kids sponsored the “Children’s Village” kids art area and the “Art for Youth Gallery”:

  •  In the “Children’s Village” area, the participating children had an opportunity to paint a quilt panel about their pet. The top 15 quilt panels were then chosen to be included in the final child-created Quilt design/project. The Quilt was presented by the MOSAICS Festival Board of Directors to Mercy. It will be displayed at its Mercy Kids facilities, and auctioned off at the annual Benefit for Mercy Kids Dinner Auction event in July 2016. Proceeds from the auction of the Quilt will help fund the McAuley Playground, an Unlimited Play inclusive playground project currently being funded for construction behind the Mercy Kids Mid Rivers facility in Cottleville, Missouri – www.unlimitedplay.org/cottleville-mo.

  •  At the 2015 MOSAICS Festival’s “Art for Youth Gallery,” kids 18 years and younger were allowed to purchase a piece of art generously donated by the various artist who were participating in the Festival, for a nominal fee. A portion of the monies collected at the “Art for Youth Gallery” were then donated to the Mercy Health Foundation, to provide funding assistance for the McAuley Playground project.

MOSAICS Board Member and owner of Missouri Artists On Main, Jean McMullen – who was in charge of both the “Children’s Village” and “Art for Youth Gallery” areas for the 2015 Festival – worked in collaboration with St. Charles area quilter Terri Guillickson to create the finished 35″ x 48″ quilted work of art. Both women were also on hand at the check and Quilt presentation.
