ST. LOUIS ARTIST GUILD NEWS

News From the Artists’ Guild

Opening July 31, FREE Reception. 5-8PM

“THE ART OF ILLUSTRATION reads our cultural moment and how it’s affecting art, illustration and creative thought,” says Jon Cournoyer, juror.

Since medieval times, “illuminations” in woodcuts provided visual representations to Gutenberg’s printed books. “We’re engaged in a wild period of exciting change, thanks to the influx of digital imaging and technology, as well as the ease with which postmodern appropriation is possible and research afforded by the Internet,” Cournoyer adds.

Thirty-eight artists were juried into the exhibit, including seventeen members of the Artists’ Guild: Randy Allen, Michael Anderson, Laura Bailey, Sally Coffin, Maria Cooper, Maria D’Agrosa-Sweney, John Dyess, Brenda Gilliam, Julie Heller, Tim Kent, Grace Kettenbrink, Lani Kohoutek-Miller, Glenn Miller, Barbara Nwacha, Jim Trotter, Ron Vivod, Marjorie Williamson

At left, Señorita Lupita by Bruce Calvin.

St. Louis Artists’ Guild is partnering with Miriam Switching Post to provide a variety of seating throughout the gallery. This furniture is available for purchase with proceeds going to Miriam School.

Juror Jon Cournoyer, a St. Louis-based graphic designer and artist, taps into unconscious associations through found objects and imagery, melding printmaking, painting, and assemblage. Represented by Hoffman LaChance Contemporary Gallery, his work is collected nationally. Cournoyer is Senior Head of Graphic Design at the Saint Louis Art Museum and Adjunct Professor at Webster University.
