Ready for an Art Adventure? Explore the world of drawing, painting and more!

— FILLED! Jan. 11 – Feb. 29. Monday evenings. 6-8:30pm. PORTRAIT DRAWING with Bill Neukomm. Yep, this class has filled, but no worries!  Bill is offering a Figurative Drawing Workshop on February 6. See WORKSHOPS below for details.

— Jan. 13 – Mar. 2. Wednesday mornings. 9:30 – 12noon. WATERCOLOR PAINTING with Deanna Nash. What are the unique techniques of watercolor? You’ll receive a

solid foundation in painting preparation, brush care, and brushing techniques, as well as a basic understanding of color theory and composition. Ages 16+. Costs: $120 Members, $150 Non-members.

— Jan. 14 – Mar. 3. Thurs. afternoons. 1 – 3:30pm. ACRYLIC PAINTING with Deanna Nash. How do you modify the appearance, mood, and character of acrylics? You’ll receive a solid foundation in technique, painting preparation, brush care, and brushing techniques, as well as a basic understanding of color theory and composition. Ages 16+. Costs: $120 Members, $150 Non-members.

– Jan. 20 – Mar. 7. Wednesday evenings. 6 – 8:30pm. FIGURE DRAWING with Philip Perschbacher. Renaissance artists believed a careful study of the human form was the best way to learn how to draw. You’ll work in pencil from the nude model, focusing on gesture, proportion, contour, and shadow shape. All skill levels are welcome. Ages 18+. Costs: $155 Members, $185 Non-members. Model fees included.

WORKSHOPS.

A good way to learn something new when you can’t commit to a regular class time.

— Jan. 23, 12 – 3pm. Paper Marbling Workshop. Instructor Emily Elhoffer teaches the ancient process of marbleizing paper. Create patterns that range from psychedelic galaxies to vibrant cross-sections of rock. The process is quick, mesmerizingly fun, and very easy to learn! Ages 16+. Class: $45 Members, $60 Non-members. Includes $20 materials fee.

— Jan. 30 – 31, 1 – 4pm. Rust & Tea: Natural Dye Workshop with Jen Bradford. Spend a couple of afternoons dyeing textiles using iron oxide (rust) and black tea to create shape, texture and pattern – a sense of movement. You’ll finish the workshop with three completed scarves and the confidence to continue your own dyeing experiments! Class: $70 Members, $85 Non-members. Includes $25 materials fee.

— Feb. 2, 10am – 4pm. Felting Workshop. Felting is considered the oldest textile art, with existing samples dating back to 6,500BC. Learn a modern twist on this ancient art. Instructor Dahven White will teach you how to felt a full-size lightweight scarf with optional inclusions such as silk, yarn, lace, and recycled chunks of sweater. Class: $70 Members, $85 Non-members. Includes $25 materials fee.

— Feb. 6, 9am – 4pm. Figurative Workshop: Figure Painting with

Andrew Brandmeyer.  Work from a live model, focusing on composition and building mass by use of color and value. Oil paint will be the medium of choice and various approaches towards application will be introduced. Offered in partnership with Fontbonne University, this workshop will be held at Fontbonne. — Feb. 6, 9am – 4pm. Figurative Workshop: Drawing with

Bill Neukomm. Working from a live model, we’ll discuss both a general approach to drawing, as well as specific information, such as proportions and anatomical landmarks, which leads to an accurate portrait. The format will include instructor demos. Offered in partnership with Fontbonne University, this workshop will be held at Fontbonne. MORE!

— Feb. 5, 6 – 9pm. It’s A Friday Night Draw-In! 

Figurative Friday with Albert Kuo. It’s an evening of figure drawing in the Artists’ Guild gallery with models. $10. Register online on or before Feb. 4. The more artists who sign up, the more models to practice and draw.

 

FREE For KIDS.

— Jan. 9, 12noon – 2pm. Fun FREE Saturday: Winter Collage. Children create snowflakes and winter trees using paint and collage techniques in this FREE Winter Collage workshop. For children between the ages of 5 – 10 years old. Parents welcome. All art supplies provided. No reservations needed.

— Feb. 6, 12noon – 2pm. Fun FREE First Saturdays: Create A Valentine’s Day Critter. Artists like Hieronymus Bosch, Stephanie Metz, and Theo Jansen conceive imaginary creatures that evoke wonder, disbelief, and curiosity. Your kids can create their very own Valentine’s Day critter! For children between the ages of 5 – 10 yrs. Parents welcome. Art projects will be announced. All art supplies provided. No reservations needed.

 

WE’RE CELEBRATING 130 YEARS!

It’s a significant birthday. The Party begins January 30 (yep 1.30!) at the Clearly Human Artist Reception. With cake. And more. ;)

1) During weekdays, park in Visitor Parking on the west side of Jackson Avenue in the open lot or on the east side of the West Campus complex and enter through the glass doors by the Wine and Cheese Shop.

2) After 5pm and on weekends, yellow permit parking areas (for Washington U students) are available for visitor parking.
