We are now accepting donations from artists for this event. Donations can be new gift-like items, artwork or gift cards. 

Capital Arts has many new exciting programs coming- especially for artists! Funds raised from our trivia night will make them all possible.

1. Art Heals
Art Heals is a community-focused art healing program committed to the empowerment and transformation of individuals through the visual arts. Capital Arts is working cooperatively with existing non-profits and organizations operating within our local community to heal, educate, and engage individuals encountering adversity through the visual arts.

Sign up for free monthly Figure Drawing Sessions & Visual Arts Critique Group at Capital Arts

Start dates are to be announced to individuals who sign up for these two programs. Artists of ANY skill-level are able to participate. Email artsadmin@capitalarts.org for to request more information. 

2. Free Figure Drawing Sessions – The first Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm

Artists bring media of choice (and an easel if required) and receive access to a professional drawing model once a month at the Capital Arts gallery.

*Artists should bring a small donation ($5 recommended) to assist in paying the model. However, no artist will be turned away due to a lack of funds.  

3. Critique Group – The first Thursday of each month at 5:30pm

A free monthly critique meeting for artists is available as a platform for practicing artists of any skill level to discuss & critique work.

Artists bring in 1-3 pieces each. The pieces are featured individually to teh group to discuss ideas and critique work together.

Next Exhibition: Wild – An artful presentation of fur, feathers, fish and everything else that flies, jumps, creeps, crawls, gallops, or slithers! Works that focus on the feral, the instinctual, the unbelievable or nature itself.

Next Exhibition after WILD: Small Works – An artful presentation of anything that goes with art measuring 11×14 inches or less. The works may be small but expect lots of big ideas.

Teaching Opportunities

Capital Arts is looking for teachers for our year-round studio classes. These may range from one-day workshops to weekly classes.

PROGRESSIVE STUFF: Our teachers design their own classes. Stop by during the week or submit a proposal. We will work with you to bring your vision to life. We accept a broad array of classes. In the past we have done things from Comic Camps with Kids to Flower Arranging to Silk Painting.

Classes are able to meet as little as one time or may several times such as a weekly basis.     

Proposed classes must be submitted 2 months prior to class start date. Capital Arts is seeking classes & workshops

Upcoming Art Strolls: the Fall stroll on September 11th in conjunction with the Arts Live 3-day weekend and the Winter stroll on November 20 in conjunction with the holiday season and small business Saturday.

The Arts Strolls of Jefferson City will be held seasonally, 4 times a year on Fridays from 6 pm – 9 pm.

Whether you want to promote a single piece or set up an entire display tent the choice is yours. This is an opportunity to put the visual arts on the forefront of the public’s mind. Events like this typically have a fee and competitive selection process but not Arts Stroll- Get involved while it’s still free to enter!

Events like this have TRANSFORMED many visual arts communities by raising interest, awareness and importance of the visual arts. Each visual artist attending makes an impact.

This is one of the most impactful ways to grow the visual arts scene in Jefferson City.

The central Missouri area is packed with talented and unique artists! We need to let the community know.

Sept 11 – Fall Stroll

Part of Arts Live Weekend with ThNL on Sept. 10 and the Capital Jazz Fest and Capital Arts sidewalk chalk competition on Sept. 12.

Nov 6 – Winter Stroll

Get your shopping done early during the downtown holidays open house.

Call to Artists: Who Should Participate?

Upcoming arts-related events/venues are especially encouraged to participate and provide a showcase/vignette to help promote attendance/ticket sales.

Artisans & Crafters – Painters, photographers, sculptors, wood workers, weavers, jewelry, potters, glass, mosaics, leather, furniture, etc.

Farmers, Gardeners & Unique Local Products – Produce, cheese, botanicals, salt, honey, soap, candles etc.

Artists – Dance, theatre, musicians, chefs, authors, poets, spoken word, etc.

Street Performers – Buskers, storytellers, re-enactors, theater scenes, Magicians, Jugglers, Clowns, Hula Hoopers etc.

Others: Art & theater clubs and organizations, art classes & teachers, wineries, cinema, restaurants etc.


Performances

In addition to street-corner and cafe performers, the intersection of Madison and High will be a ‘theater in the round’ style performance venue with a small sound system and bleacher seating. Performance artists may request one or more 15 minute time slot here which will be assigned in advance.

CAPITAL STREET ART will be held in conjunction with JAZZFEST on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Downtown Jefferson City. 

Watch High Street pavement come alive during JAZZFEST.  If you have never participated in Street Art we encourage you to join in a day of music, creativity and fun.  Cash prizes will be awarded to winners.

SOLO ART SHOWS AT THE

Missouri River Regional Library

in Jefferson City, Missouri
